Statement and biography
I draw quickly, but I do not think of the work as fast. Speed is only the condition that lets uncertainty remain visible. My figure studies are built from overlapping marks that register people gathering, pausing, and beginning to leave. I am interested in the social threshold moments that usually go undocumented: the final drift of a conversation, the angle of bodies deciding whether to stay, the slight disorder of a room after attention has dispersed. Ink and charcoal let me keep the image unstable without abandoning structure entirely. I want the drawing to remain open enough that a viewer feels movement in it, even when the scene is almost still. The work is less about portraiture than about the choreography of public hesitation.
